Hello, world. Writing in the AI doomerism age
First post. Testing to see if this thing works, and ramblings on writing in the age of AI.
I’ve decided to start a blog of sorts. It’s a very millennial mid-life crisis type of activity to take up, which I am aware of. I’m hoping that no one reads these posts, I certainly don’t intend to advertise them anywhere. Primarily, I want to get into the habit of writing and expressing my own thoughts.
In this current moment, it feels like the pace of AI acceleration is enormous. If you spend too much time on X, you’ll end up believing the singularity is arriving any day now: that Anthropic or Muse or what have you is on the verge of RSI any moment, that we are on the precipice of a paradigm shift that will upend the economy, work, and everything we knew about life. And there are, of course, the naysayers, the Ed Zitrons of the world who remain as skeptical as ever.
I can’t say that I’m an expert in either domain, skepticism or dogmatic faith, as it comes to AI. What I am familiar with is that feeling of your brain matter leaking out of your ears as you prompt and manage and babysit your agents, and I am familiar with dooming.
To try to keep some of this sensation at bay I’ve decided to try to write more, to pen down some of my thoughts. I don’t anticipate writing every day, but if I do have something that energizes my neurons I do hope to capture it. Will it keep the brain rot at bay? I’m not sure, but it probably can’t hurt.
